What is an LPG cylinder valve?

It is the brass fitting screwed into the neck of an LPG cylinder. It seals the gas in, lets the cylinder be filled and emptied safely, and connects the cylinder to the regulator or appliance. Many valves also carry a pressure-relief valve that vents gas if pressure inside the cylinder climbs too high.

Which standards do LPG cylinder valves follow?

In Europe and many export markets, LPG cylinder valves are made to EN 13953, with outlet connection dimensions as per EN 15202. Brass is specified to EN 12164/12165 and rubber seals are tested to EN 549. Valves for transportable pressure equipment in the EU carry the π mark (TPED). North American overfill-protection valves are listed to UL 1769.

What is EN 15202?

EN 15202 sets the dimensions of LPG outlet connections — the G-numbered outlets such as G.52, G.56 or G.61 — so that a valve and regulator from different makers fit together. All Orson outlet connections are made to EN 15202 dimensions.

What is the difference between a compact valve and a hand-wheel valve?

A compact valve is self-closing: it stays shut until a regulator is clicked on, and closes again when it is removed. A hand-wheel valve is opened and closed by turning a wheel, and the regulator screws onto its outlet. Which one you need depends on your market and the regulators used there.

What does a pressure-relief valve (PRV) do?

A PRV is a small spring-loaded valve inside the main valve body. If the pressure in the cylinder rises above its set point — for example when the cylinder is left in the sun — it opens and vents gas, then closes again once pressure falls. Orson sets and discharge-tests every PRV on automatic machines, with the results recorded, to EN 13953.

What is an OPD valve?

OPD stands for overfill prevention device. A float inside the cylinder shuts off filling when the cylinder reaches its safe fill level. OPD valves are required in North America on 4 to 40 lb cylinders, such as BBQ cylinders. Orson's OPD and LCC 27 valves are UL Listed to UL 1769 for the USA and Canada.

Yes. Inlet threads and outlet connections are made to your specification, alongside the standard EN 15202 outlets. Tell us your cylinder, market and connection and our engineers will confirm the right configuration.
